Breaking News: Dolphins Loses Another Top Star To Injury

The Miami Dolphins are once again grappling with uncertainty at the quarterback position. After starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion just a week prior, backup Skylar Thompson was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a rib injury. Thompson exited in the third quarter of the 24-3 loss after what coach Mike McDaniel described as a particularly painful injury.

Thompson’s final play was a 5-yard pass to De’Von Achane with 9:46 remaining in the third quarter, but the damage may have been done earlier in the game when he endured a hard hit from Seahawks linebacker Tyrel Dodson, one of five sacks he faced. Before being replaced by Tim Boyle, Thompson completed 13 of 19 passes for 107 yards.

Coach McDaniel expressed Thompson’s desire to stay in the game, saying, “Half the pain or half of the frustration for him, I think, was that he was really trying to find a way to not come out of the game. And ultimately, it was pretty painful. He fought through it, but we’ll get a chance to look at him tomorrow.”

Skylar Thompson struggled to get up after taking the hit from Tyrel Dodson and appeared hunched over as he exited the field. He briefly returned for the next series but stayed down for several minutes after completing a pass to De’Von Achane. Thompson lay on his back before sitting up and heading straight to the locker room.

This injury comes just over a week after starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sustained his third concussion in two years during a loss to Buffalo. Tagovailoa has since been placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least four games.

Coach Mike McDaniel did not reveal the Dolphins’ plan if Thompson is unable to play in their upcoming home game against Tennessee on Monday night. Miami recently signed Tyler Huntley from the Ravens’ practice squad, and he served as the third-string quarterback during Sunday’s game.

McDaniel remained optimistic that the rest of the Dolphins’ talented offense could recover, despite the ongoing challenges at the quarterback position.
