Just In: Two Dallas Cowboys Players Suffer Significant Long Term Injuries

The Dallas Cowboys’ Thursday night victory over division rival New York Giants came at a high cost.
Linebacker Micah Parsons was taken off with a high left ankle sprain, while defensive end Demarcus Lawrence sustained a right foot sprain. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, both players are certain to miss the Week 6 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Lawrence is anticipated to miss several weeks.

Parsons’ left leg was rolled up on by Giants offensive tackle Greg Van Roten. Parsons walked off the field with assistance, but was eventually taken back to the locker room. He underwent an MRI on Friday. It’s unclear how much time he’ll miss.

Lawrence sustained his injury while pursuing Giants quarterback Daniel Jones in the third quarter.

Defensive ends When Parsons and Lawrence left the game, Marshawn Kneeland and Chauncey Golston took over. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, defensive end Carl Lawson was promoted off the Cowboys’ practice squad two weeks ago, while defensive end Tyrus Wheat is on the 53-man roster but has been inactive the last two games.

Both Parsons and Lawrence have been steadfast. Parsons missed only one game due to COVID in 2021, while Lawrence had played 38 games in a row.

The Cowboys had one of the league’s weakest defenses entering Thursday night’s game against the New York Giants, but they were able to keep the Giants’ offense under control all night. The Cowboys limited the Giants to 15 points and 26 rushing yards after surrendering a league-high 187 rushing yards per game coming in.

The 2-2 Cowboys will face the 3-0 Steelers on Sunday, October 6. Following a bye week, they play the Detroit Lions at home before traveling to face the San Francisco 49ers.
