Just In: Matt Rhule Confirms Huskers Star Likely to Miss Purdue Game With Serious Injury

The Nebraska Cornhuskers might be without their starting cornerback this weekend against Purdue. Senior Tommi Hill played only 19 snaps in last week’s loss to Illinois due to a plantar fascia injury, as confirmed by head coach Matt Rhule. Rhule indicated that Hill’s availability for Saturday’s game is still uncertain.

“It’s a matter of pain tolerance. It’s an extremely painful injury,” Rhule explained. “I just saw an NFL player miss four weeks with this. Most players would be out for that long, but Tommi is pushing through.” If Hill can’t play, Ceyair Wright, a transfer from USC, will start. “If Tommi is able to play, great. If not, Ceyair has proven he’s a Big Ten-level starter, and we’re fortunate to have that depth,” Rhule added.

Wright, who had limited action in Nebraska’s first three games, saw 51 snaps against Illinois in Hill’s absence and performed well. According to Pro Football Focus, Wright recorded four tackles, two pressures, a sack, two stops, and a forced fumble, allowing only two receptions for 10 yards on four targets. Still, losing Hill, one of the Huskers’ top cornerbacks and a potential future NFL draft pick, would be a significant setback. Hill also had a pick-six earlier in the season against Colorado.
