Breaking News: Steelers Top Star Battles With Calf Injury

Mike Tomlin has emphasized that his decision to keep Justin Fields as the starter is straightforward, given Russell Wilson’s ongoing health concerns. A notable reporter supports Tomlin’s statement, confirming the reasoning behind it.

There’s been speculation that the Steelers might be taking their time with Wilson’s injury, especially since they’ve started 3-0 with Fields performing well. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler dismissed that theory in a column on Wednesday, explaining that Wilson’s calf injury is quite serious, and his participation in the preseason likely worsened it.

Fowler also noted that, while Wilson demonstrated better control of the Steelers’ offense during the offseason, his calf injury is preventing him from performing at his usual level. The injury initially occurred during a conditioning test at training camp. Although Wilson won the starting role over Fields, he aggravated the injury prior to Week 1, opening the door for Fields to take over—and he has capitalized on the opportunity.

Even if Wilson were nearing full recovery, the Steelers have no reason to rush his return. Tomlin’s blunt remarks about Fields’ starting position this week align with the fact that Wilson’s injury is still a factor in the decision-making process.
