Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman, will miss the rest of the season after injuring his triceps in Sunday’s 20-13 loss to the Detroit Lions.
On Wednesday, the Cardinals placed Jones on injured reserve and signed veteran Naquan Jones from the practice squad.
During the winter, Justin Jones signed a three-year contract with a reported $19.8 million in guaranteed money, and he was viewed as a key piece in the team’s rebuild. The 28-year-old started the first three games of the season, recording four tackles and one fumble recovery.
“He’ll come back better than ever,” said coach Jonathan Gannon on Wednesday.
The Cardinals already had a thin defensive line. Rookie Darius Robinson, a first-round pick, suffered a calf injury in the preseason and will have to miss at least one more game before returning from injured reserve.
Naquan Jones appeared in four games for the Cardinals last season, recording nine tackles.
The Cardinals are one of three NFC West clubs with a 1-2 start. The Seattle Seahawks top the division with a 3-0 record. The Seahawks and Cardinals will meet in Seattle on November 24 and then in Arizona on December 8.
