Breaking News: Yankees Loses Another Top Star To Injury

The New York Yankees placed left-handed pitcher  on the 15-day Injured List on Wednesday, sidelining him for the remainder of the regular season. However, there’s a possibility he could return if the Yankees make a deep playoff run.

Cortes was originally scheduled to start Wednesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, but he experienced discomfort in his pitching elbow earlier in the week. An MRI revealed a flexor strain. The 29-year-old pitcher will rest for the next week and undergo platelet-rich plasma injection treatment as part of his recovery.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone addressed Nestor Cortes’ injury situation, stating that while the team isn’t ruling out his return for the playoffs, they will know more about his postseason availability in the next seven to 10 days.

“I don’t know if [I’m] optimistic,” Boone said. “We’re not ruling it out yet. First things first, the next week to 10 days, at least, has to unfold to really see what we’re dealing with and see if there is any chance.”

Cortes finishes the regular season with a 9-10 record over 30 starts, posting a 3.77 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 2024.
