Breaking News: Phillies Confirms Unexpected Return for All-Star

Top Phillies Offense has returned to the Phillies’ lineup after being sidelined for just over three weeks. He batted sixth and played left field against Cubs left-hander Justin Steele, boosting the Phillies’ offense, especially against left-handed pitching. Hays has excelled against lefties this season, hitting .350/.402/.538, and has maintained an OPS over .800 since 2021.

With Hays back, center fielder Cal Stevenson was optioned to the Phillies’ spring training complex in Clearwater, Florida, as the Triple-A season has ended. Hays’ return most impacts Weston Wilson, who would have started in left field but now shifts to a pinch-hitting role, remaining valuable as a backup for both infield and outfield corners.

Looking ahead, the Phillies’ outfield will likely feature Hays in left and Johan Rojas in center against lefty starters. Against right-handed pitching, the Phillies have several options, including Brandon Marsh sliding to center, potentially leaving left field open for Hays, Rojas, or Kody Clemens, depending on matchups.

While Hays has struggled against righties and has faced multiple disruptions this season due to injuries, the Phillies are eager to get him as many at-bats as possible before the playoffs. As a result, it’s expected that Hays will start in all remaining regular-season games.

Stevenson remains eligible to return for the NLDS, which begins on October 5, after serving his required 10-day absence. The Phillies are likely to carry 14 position players and 12 pitchers for the NLDS, providing flexibility for pinch-hitting and defensive replacements, particularly in critical game situations.

Rojas, meanwhile, made a strong case for his role with standout contributions in Monday’s 6-2 win over the Cubs, including a hit-and-run single, two perfect sacrifice bunts, and a highlight-reel catch in center field.
