The Miami Dolphins are left with more questions than answers after their 24-3 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon. Unsurprisingly, many of these questions revolve around the quarterback situation. As fans know, starting QB Tua Tagovailoa is out indefinitely following a severe concussion suffered in Week Two against the Buffalo Bills.
In their first game without Tagovailoa, the Dolphins struggled, managing only 205 total yards of offense. Backup quarterback Skylar Thompson completed 13 of 19 passes for 107 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions.
The Miami Dolphins Previously Signed Tyler Huntley
After Tua Tagovailoa was diagnosed with a concussion and placed on injured reserve, the Dolphins signed former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.
However, Huntley doesn’t offer much stability at quarterback. His selection as a Pro Bowler in 2022 still confuses many fans, as he started only four games, threw more interceptions (three) than touchdowns (two), and finished with a passer rating of 77.2.
It’s evident that Miami won’t be winning many games with Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle, or Huntley at the helm. With no clear timeline for Tagovailoa’s return, many believe the team should explore other options at quarterback.
NFL Analyst Encourages the Miami Dolphins to Trade for Los Angeles Rams Backup Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
A recent article on Bleacher Report suggests that the Miami Dolphins should consider trading for Los Angeles Rams backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who was recently reinstated by the NFL after serving a two-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.
With Tua Tagovailoa on injured reserve, the earliest he can return is Week 8. However, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Tagovailoa is consulting concussion specialists, and there’s no definitive timeline for his recovery, raising further concerns given his history with concussions.
In the meantime, the Dolphins are relying on Skylar Thompson, which is risky considering his lack of experience. Garoppolo, with his familiarity in a Kyle Shanahan-style offense, could be a valuable addition, even if only as a backup. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel previously worked with Garoppolo during their time together under 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.
Acquiring Garoppolo likely wouldn’t cost more than a late day-three draft pick if the Rams were open to a trade. While Garoppolo hasn’t had consistent success throughout his career, he would arguably be a more reliable option than Miami’s current quarterback alternatives.
