Breaking News: Bruins Sign Replacement For Jeremy Swayman

Tensions are rising in Boston, and the Bruins are taking notice. The team is preparing for the possibility of being without goaltender Jeremy Swayman, at least for the short to mid-term, as contract negotiations with the 24-year-old have stalled. According to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, Swayman is still frustrated by a recent arbitration process and is standing firm, refusing to accept a deal he considers unfair. “Swayman remembers every slight and uses them as motivation,” Shinzawa noted, adding that he doesn’t take criticism lightly and holds onto grudges.

In response to the impasse, the Bruins are already taking steps to fill the potential gap in their goaltending lineup.

On Thursday, they signed veteran goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo to a professional tryout (PTO), adding him to a group that includes Brandon Bussi and Ryan Bischel. Notably absent from this backup group is Joonas Korpisalo, who was acquired earlier in the offseason to replace Linus Ullmark, who was traded to the Ottawa Senators.

“For now, Swayman remains committed to his desired contract terms, whatever they may be,” Shinzawa wrote, emphasizing the goalie’s confidence and unwillingness to compromise. The Bruins’ efforts to explore other goaltending options suggest they are preparing for a prolonged standoff. In the meantime, Korpisalo, who is poised to be the team’s new starting goaltender if the negotiations with Swayman don’t progress, expressed that the situation hasn’t affected his focus. “It doesn’t change my job,” Korpisalo said on Thursday. “He’s a great guy and a great goalie, but right now, I’m just focusing on myself.”
