JUST IN: Matt Rhule Confirms Nebraska Star is Out Indefinitely with Significant Injury

Nebraska’s head coach, Matt Rhule, provided an update on multiple injuries on Monday.

Nebraska’s offensive tackle depth took another hit on Monday, as head coach Matt Rhule announced that senior offensive tackle Turner Corcoran will be out indefinitely due to a hamstring injury suffered against Illinois.

Rhule also gave an update on cornerback Tommi Hill, who departed the game against Illinois with a foot injury.

“Turner has a significant hamstring injury and will be out awhile,” Rhule informed me. “Tommi is probably just day-to-day, it’s based off his pain threshold.”

After Corcoran left Friday’s game against Illinois, redshirt freshman Gunnar Gottula played the rest of the game at left tackle. Gottula false started during overtime, but Rhule was impressed with the tackle in his first extended action.

“I thought Gunnar came in and played really, really well,” according to Rhule. “Unfortunately overtime got away from us a little so that affected us, but even that was a twist game and he needed more help there, but I thought Gunnar came in and filled in well.”

Nebraska replaced Hill with USC transfer Ceyair Wright in the match against Illinois. The 6-foot, 180-pounder recorded six tackles and created one of Nebraska’s two turnovers on defense with a five-yard strip sack.

“I thought he played really well—forced a turnover, had tight coverage on the one where he was flagged for pass interference, tight coverage on the one on the sideline, and played with enthusiasm and physicality. “I thought he played very well,” Rhule added.

The second major injury news from Monday’s press conference included sophomore kicker Tristan Alvano. Alvano was labeled as questionable for Saturday’s game against Illinois, but he eventually did not participate due to an ongoing ailment. According to Rhule, Nebraska shut down Alvano on Tuesday, just before Illinois week began.

John Hohl kicked against Illinois and will kick again on Saturday against Purdue.

“The thought process was to just shut him down last week for however many weeks it takes and sort of build him up,” Rhule told me. “We’re going to be in a lot of (close games), and you’d like to have great field goal kickers. We did it with Tristan to get him well again, and we’re hoping John will respond to this. This will provide him with the opportunity to be proud of his reaction for the rest of his life. I am confident that he will respond favorably.”

Rhule also announced that redshirt freshman defensive tackle Sua Lefotu had returned after missing Nebraska’s first four games of the season.
