Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors this summer after winning four championships with the team, prompting the franchise to seek ways to stay competitive and maximize Steph Curry’s remaining prime. The Warriors had shown interest in acquiring Paul George before his move to the Philadelphia 76ers but were unable to agree on a trade with the Clippers. There are also rumors linking the Warriors to Jimmy Butler, whose future with the Miami Heat is uncertain. Butler has a player option for the 2025-26 season, making him a potential free agent next summer.
The Heat’s plans for Butler are unclear, as they haven’t offered him a contract extension or made any significant moves to contend this offseason, possibly indicating they are focusing on building around Bam Adebayo. Acquiring Butler might be complicated for the Warriors and could require a multi-team trade.
FadeAway World’s Fran Leiva suggested a hypothetical four-team trade in which the Warriors would land Butler. In this scenario, the Heat would receive Trae Young, Harrison Barnes, Kevon Looney, and Jonathan Kuminga. The Atlanta Hawks would get Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, Gary Payton II, along with first-round picks from the Warriors (2025) and the Heat (2026). The San Antonio Spurs would acquire De’Andre Hunter, Nikola Jovic, and Pelle Larsson. Although purely speculative, this trade could provide long-term benefits for the Heat by adding younger players like Young and Kuminga, but many factors would need to align for a trade of this scale to take place.
