The Baltimore Orioles activated All-Star infielder and infielder Ramon Urias as they look to secure a playoff spot.
A victory over the Tigers and a defeat by the Seattle Mariners to the Texas Rangers would send the Orioles back to the postseason for the second consecutive year. The Baltimore Orioles (86-69) led the American League wild-card race by 4½ games on Sunday.
In matching roster moves, the Orioles optioned outfielder Daniel Johnson and infielder Livan Soto to Triple-A Norfolk. Both have seen minimal action this season.
Westburg, 25, had been sidelined since July 31, when he fractured his right hand after making his first All-Star team in his second big league season. He started at second base and batted second on Sunday.
Urias, 30, lost three weeks after spraining his right ankle on August 31. Coming off the 10-day IL, he started at third base and batted seventh in the series finale against the Tigers.
Westburg, a standout defensive infielder, hit.269 with 25 doubles, 18 home runs, and 58 RBIs in 101 games before to his accident. During a three-game rehab stint in Norfolk, he went 4-for-10 with one home run.
Urias filled in for Westburg and had a good August, hitting.260 with two doubles, five home runs, and 17 RBIs in 27 games. This season, the five-year veteran is hitting.252 with nine doubles, ten home runs, and 35 RBIs in 93 games.
