Revel was expected to be a first-round NFL Draft pick before his injury. This week, Greenville, NC received devastating news that will impact the East Carolina Pirates for the remainder of 2024.
Star cornerback Shavon Revel will miss the entire season due to a torn ACL sustained during practice before Saturday’s game against Liberty. ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report this.
Currently ranked as the No. 2 cornerback on Mel Kiper Jr.’s draft board, Revel earned Second Team All-AAC honors last season after a breakout performance, totaling 54 tackles, four tackles for loss, one interception, one fumble recovery, and 13 pass breakups. He also made headlines by blocking two punts.
Standing at 6’3”, Revel had a strong start to 2024, already deflecting two passes and intercepting two others. Notably, he returned an interception for a 50-yard touchdown last week against Appalachian State, helping the Pirates to a 16-0 lead.
With Revel out, ECU aims for its first AAC title without its top player. Stepping up in his absence is former four-star recruit Dontavius Nash, a transfer from North Carolina, who recorded 34 tackles last season and is expected to take on a larger role after starting three games in 2023.
This Saturday, ECU will face Liberty, looking to end the Flames’ 15-game regular-season winning streak in their first-ever matchup.
