The Atlanta Braves have reinstated three-time All-Star second baseman from the injured list following his rehabilitation assignment, just in time for series opener . He has been out since fracturing his wrist during a 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on July 21.
This season, Albies is hitting .258 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs across 90 games. Since his MLB debut in 2017, the 27-year-old has been a pivotal player for the Braves, hitting over 20 home runs in four seasons, including a career-high 33 last year. He has surpassed 100 RBIs twice and 100 runs three times.
In a related move , the Braves sent infielder Cavan Biggio down to Triple-A Gwinnett. Biggio, 29, has appeared in four games with Atlanta this season, going 1-for-5. He’s also played for the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers this year.
The son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, Cavan had a strong rookie season in 2019, posting 16 homers, 48 RBIs, and 14 steals in 100 games, earning a fifth-place finish in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. However, his production has since declined, with Biggio failing to hit double digits in home runs or record 70 hits in any season since. He holds a career .225 average with 51 home runs and 186 RBIs over 524 games.
