Brent Pry, the Hokies’ head coach, presented recent injury reports.
Rutgers has faced with injuries during the first three weeks of the season, but they are not alone.
The Scarlet Knights will travel to Blacksburg on Saturday to face Virginia Tech. The Hokies have won two straight games, but they are dealing with their own injury issues.
“To be honest with you, we’ve got eight or nine guys right now who are questionable and limited today,” Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry said ahead of Week 4.
Virginia Tech, like Rutgers, has struggled defensively. Pry identified some key members of this unit who remain doubtful heading into the week.
“We’ll see over the next two days where we get to,” Pry told reporters. “Obviously, Xavier (Chaplin) took two snaps and came out again. He is limited. Ali’s (Jennings) Ltd. Bhayshul’s (Tuten) Ltd. Keli’s (Lawson) Limited. Will Johnson is still out. Nick Gallo is still out. “Jalen Stroman is still out.”
Stroman, the Hokies’ starting safety, participated in the season opener but has been sidelined for the past two weeks. This was Virginia Tech’s largest absence early on. Nick Gallo, a tight end, is rehabilitating from a ruptured ACL suffered last season, while junior linebacker and special teams standout Will Johnson is also slated to lose time.
The Hokies have relied on depth in the center of their defense, but they hope to have some players back when they face Rutgers.
“We’ve got some guys, George Ballanace wasn’t able to play Saturday,” Pry told the media. “We have some work to do with our linebacker depth units. Brody Meadows and Ezekiel Wimbush are both injured. So we’re all beat up right now. “We need to get some guys healthy this week.”
