The New England Patriots have bolstered their defensive line by signing rookie defensive end off the Chicago Bears’ practice squad. He, standing 6’4” and weighing 275 pounds, was an undrafted free agent who joined the Bears in May after completing his college football career at Rutgers and James Madison University. His addition brings needed depth to the Patriots’ defensive line, especially with their current injury issues.
NFL rules require that practice squad players, once signed to a 53-man roster, must remain on that roster for at least three weeks. As such, he will receive an active roster salary during this period. If the Patriots choose to release him before those three weeks, his rights will revert to the Bears.
Meanwhile, the Bears responded to Kromah’s departure by signing defensive lineman **Dashaun Mallory** to their practice squad. Mallory, who hails from Bolingbrook, Illinois, spent his senior season at **Arizona State** and was with the Bears during the preseason. The Bears still have one open spot remaining on their practice squad after promoting long snapper Scott Daly to their active roster ahead of the game against the Texans.
