The Dallas Cowboys are aiming to bounce back after a discouraging defeat to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday. Mike Zimmer’s defense is under intense scrutiny following a poor performance, allowing the Saints to score 44 points and gain 432 total yards in the Week 2 blowout.
Several players had opportunities to make a difference but fell short, and now one of them will be out for at least four games.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Dallas defensive tackle has been placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury. ESPN’s Todd Archer noted that he had a wrist surgery last year, raising concerns about a potential recurrence if it’s the same wrist.
Unfortunately, Phillips’ absence may not be strongly felt. Despite his size at 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds, the Cowboys expected the veteran to be a force in the trenches. However, since being traded to Dallas before Week 1, the 2015 draft pick has made minimal impact, recording only one assisted tackle and a quarterback hit in the first two games.
The Cowboys have struggled significantly to stop the run, allowing an alarming 141.5 rushing yards per game this season. This issue highlights the ongoing need for reinforcements on the defensive line, which the team may need to address in the coming weeks.
