In a game where the Green Bay Packers’ running game was the standout, the team faced a setback when rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd left the field late due to an ankle injury. Although he was listed as questionable to return in a Packers’ X post, there was too little time remaining for him to rejoin the game. The Packers ultimately secured a 16-10 victory.
Lloyd had seven touches for 18 yards before his departure, but the spotlight was on the Packers’ star RB Josh Jacobs, who racked up 151 rushing yards on 32 carries, though he did lose a fumble.
The Colts, led by Anthony Richardson, made a late surge when Alec Pierce scored with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, narrowing the score to 16-10. Green Bay’s subsequent three-and-out gave the Colts one last chance with under a minute left, starting deep in their own territory at the five-yard line. Richardson moved the Colts close to midfield, but his two Hail Mary attempts fell short, with the final pass resulting in a game-sealing interception by Packers’ safety Evan Williams.
Lloyd, who was inactive in Week 1 due to a hamstring injury, was cleared to play on Sunday but now faces an uncertain recovery timeline.
Packers win over Colts with Malik Willis, earn .500 record
The Colts were the odds-on favorite, thanks in part to Malik Willis being named starter due to Jordan Love’s MCL sprain injury.
The game did not go as planned, with the Packers taking an early lead and developing their ground attack. The offense managed down-and-distance effectively without requiring Willis to overextend on third downs.
Jacobs was back in his old form. Despite a fumble near the goal line early in the second quarter, which might have given the Colts a 17-0 lead, the power back resembled Jacobs in 2022. During that season, he carried for 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns.
