Breaking News: Nebraska Confirm Injury to Four Players

Nebraska senior offensive guard Micah Mazzccua will be sidelined for the game against Northern Iowa. He, along with Blye Hill and Javin Wright, was listed as out in the injury report released a few hours before kickoff.

Additionally, Husker defensive lineman Jimari Butler is listed as questionable.

Mazzccua, who started at right guard in Nebraska’s victories over UTEP and Colorado, did not finish the game against Colorado, though he did participate in postgame interviews. Veteran guard Henry Lutovsky, who missed the UTEP game due to injury, replaced Mazzccua and is expected to start against Northern Iowa. Lutovsky has started four games in his Nebraska career.

Nebraska will kick off against Northern Iowa at 6:30 p.m. on BTN, aiming to improve to 3-0 and achieve their first undefeated non-conference season since 2016.

Regarding the other injured players, there is hopeful news for Wright, who might return as early as the Sept. 28 game at Purdue, according to Matt Rhule.

Additionally, linebacker Mikai Gbayor will miss the first half of Saturday’s game due to a suspension for a targeting penalty in the 28-10 win over Colorado.

Rhule mentioned the competition for the linebacker spot next to John Bullock, noting that Vincent Shavers Jr. and Stefon Thompson will vie for the position. Rhule also praised Ceyair Wright for his strong performance at both cornerback and special teams, emphasizing the importance of competition and effort in the team’s preparation.
