After a challenging Week 2 against the Tennessee Volunteers, the NC State football team hoped to make a strong comeback today against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Unfortunately, the game hasn’t gone as hoped for the Wolfpack. Louisiana Tech took an early lead at Carter-Finley Stadium, and NC State quarterback was sidelined in the first quarter.
College football insider Brett McMurphy from The Action Network reported that McCall will not return for the game.
“NC State QB Grayson McCall out for game. Wolf Pack trails Louisiana Tech 7-6 in 2nd quarter,” McMurphy tweeted.
McCall, who transferred to NC State after being named Sun Belt Player of the Year three times at Coastal Carolina, was expected to significantly boost a Wolfpack offense that struggled last season with inconsistent quarterback play from Brennan Armstrong and MJ Morris.
Since McCall’s departure from the game, the situation has worsened for NC State. The Wolfpack, once seen as a strong contender for the ACC title, now trails 17-6 at halftime. Backup quarterback CJ Bailey, making his first career appearance, has already thrown an interception that Louisiana Tech turned into a field goal to extend their lead. Bailey, a 6-6 freshman from Miami, stepped in after McCall’s injury.
This season has been tough for NC State, which had a demanding opening game against Western Carolina and was overwhelmed 51-10 by the Volunteers. The upcoming schedule remains challenging, with NC State set to face Clemson next week in a crucial ACC matchup, followed by a late September non-conference game against Northern Illinois, which recently made headlines with an upset over Notre Dame and is ranked for the first time since 2013.
