Over the weekend, the Fighting Irish suffered an upset loss to the Northern Illinois Huskies, a team they paid $1.4 million to play against. During the game, Notre Dame welcomed some visitors, including Ryland Watters, a two-sport athlete with ties to the Fighting Irish. Watters recently discussed the visit and his future plans as the recruiting process ramps up.

The younger brother said of the school, “They are a great program, and my brother is there as well as a freshman on the baseball team.” Watters added that his brother taught him a lot about how excellent the school and environment are. Watters is searching for a quality academic program that fosters a positive culture both on and off the football field.

Watters agreed to the visit after learning about the setting from his brother, and the athlete expected it to be a ‘wonderful experience’. The athlete will also be visiting the Central Michigan Chippewas for a game on September 28th.

What Can Watters Offer the Notre Dame Football Team?

With Watters on the field, a team could get a lot out of him because of his versatility on both sides of the football. Watters is a powerful quarterback who believes that playing quarterback allows him to exhibit some of his best on-field skills. The newly hired player said, “I feel my leadership skills and ability to perform under pressure really allow me to excel in games.”

Along with his ability to lead and thrive under duress, Watters describes his clutch playmaking ability as what truly distinguishes him. Watters told me, “In big-time moments you’re going to need someone who can step up to the challenge at hand, and I know I can be that guy.” The quarterback is most effective when his back is against the wall, and Watters is not afraid to take advantage of this position.

While Watters has plenty of talent as a quarterback, the athlete is certain that he can make an impact regardless of which position his future team chooses. Watters, who stands 6-feet-2-inches and weighs over 210 pounds, can pack a punch with his defensive hits.

The athlete’s vision as a quarterback, along with his physical strengths, might make him an ideal collegiate linebacker.
