The Washington Huskies are 2-0 under Jedd Fisch, but that may not be the most significant thing Fisch has done for the University of Washington in the months since taking over on Montlake. Fisch has given the Washington Huskies a significant advantage off the field, and it has nothing to do with recruiting.
Fisch has made a large financial commitment to support the University of Washington’s brand new “Go BIG! for Washington” campaign. While it is expected that an employer will pay an employee a salary, it is not customary for the employee to take more than one-eighth of their wage and return it to the employer.
But that is what Fisch is essentially doing. The Huskies’ head coach and his wife have pledged a $1 million donation.
That is a lot of money, folks. While Fisch earns $7.5 million, according to King5.com, it is worth noting that he and his wife recently donated $1 million to assist secure the Huskies’ stability as they enter the Big Ten.
Washington Huskies launch fundraiser campaign related to UW’s move into the Big Ten
So, what is the goal of the “Go BIG! for Washington” campaign? Where does the money go? What is the point of this? Why is “BIG!” written in all caps, and why is an exclamation point in the middle of the campaign name?
Great questions. I don’t have an answer to all of those questions, but the main thing to know is that this is geared at closing the financial gap between UW and the upper echelon of the Big Ten.
The five-year, $300 million campaign will also assist the Huskies cover the increased expenditures associated with living in the Big Ten. There will be a lot more travel in the future, and it will need to be paid for.
The present from Fisch and his wife is really helpful. The fact that the Huskies have reportedly already raised roughly $50 million is also significant. Oh, and it’s great to have a head coach who is invested in the future of the Washington Huskies football team. Shoutout to Fisch for that.
