Breaking News: Nebraska star to miss the rest of the season after terrible injury

Nebraska football is coming off an excellent victory over Shedeur Sanders and Colorado, but they lost a key member of their attack prior to the game.

Walk-on tight end. Mac Markway, who transferred from LSU to the Cornhuskers, tore his ACL prior to the game against the Buffaloes and will miss the rest of the season, according to Mitch Sherman. Markway has three years of eligibility left and will redshirt this season.

Markway was a top high school talent who decided to leave Baton Rouge this summer, surprise Nebraska when he arrived in August. He was able to change schools because he did not formally enter the transfer portal, but rather moved schools like any other student.

Markway caught three passes for 16 yards during his first season at LSU in 2023. Alabama, Oregon, and Michigan were among the programs that extensively pursued him during his high school years. Being from Iowa, and considering LSU’s tight end dilemma, Markway and his family felt it as a good time to look into a position at Nebraska, which is improving.

“Mac wanted to get back to his roots: the Big Ten and his family,” Mac’s father, Matt Markway, explained in August. “He wanted to play; he didn’t want to sit out.”

“They’re on the rise — there’s no doubt they’re on the rise,” Matt Markway remarked. “I’ve been around football for a long time, and you can tell from a distance when a program is taking off. Mac is thrilled to be a part of that. I believe people there will enjoy the way he plays.”

Nebraska football’s tight end room is very stacked, with juniors Thomas Fidone and Nate Boerkircher, as well as Luke Lindenmeyer. Markway was unlikely to get much playing time anyway. Now he has the opportunity to rehabilitate from his knee injury and perhaps return stronger.

The Cornhuskers will try to improve to 3-0 this Saturday when they host Northern Iowa at home. Next weekend’s Big Ten game vs Illinois.
