The third-year tight end is struggling with an MCL sprain, which will cause him to miss time but will not terminate his season.
The Dallas Cowboys had a scare during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns when tight end Jake Ferguson injured his left knee.
Ferguson left the game with 6:23 remaining in the third quarter and did not return. He finished with three receptions for 15 yards. After the game, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy informed reporters that the third-year tight end was “in good spirits and moving around well in the locker room,” according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
On Monday, the Cowboys learned additional information on the severity of Ferguson’s injuries and whether he will miss any time.
Cowboys News: Jake Ferguson’s Knee Injury Not Considered Serious
According to Ed Werder, Dallas feels the 25-year-old pass catcher’s injury is minor and will require only a short absence.
Ferguson was scheduled to have an MRI on Monday, according to reports from Sunday. However, his X-rays were negative, and his ACL appears to be intact, which is a good sign.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Ferguson has an MCL sprain that will keep him out for a while, but it is not a season-ending injury. The Pro Bowl tight end tweeted Monday, “God is good.”
With Ferguson expected to miss next week’s game against the New Orleans Saints, Dallas might go with Luke Schoonmaker, Brevyn Spann-Ford, and John Stephens. Schoonmaker sees this as a tremendous opportunity following a difficult rookie season in 2023.
Schoonmaker and Spann-Ford played 19 offensive snaps in Sunday’s victory against the Browns, so they may see an increase in snaps against the Saints.
