BREAKING: Nebraska Football Lands Top Commitment for Highly-Rated 4-Star Player

Christian Jones (6-2.5/215) of Omaha Westside has elected to stay in Nebraska and join Matt Rhule’s formidable Blackshirts defense.

As Nebraska’s number one athlete and the 204th ranked prospect nationwide according to 247Sports, this was far from a given, with Oklahoma making a strong push to get the massive linebacker to Norman. He also visited USC and Auburn, demonstrating the demand for this great linebacker.

After seeing the smothering Blackshirt performance against Colorado, he felt it was time to make his decision and go all in with the Huskers. He is a solidly built linebacker with a 100m time of less than 11 seconds, which is what a modern-day linebacker must cover in space. Tony White’s diverse scheme is ideal for Jones, who possesses the necessary speed and power to be an effective defender and pass rusher.

Matt Rhule has maintained the Lions’ share of top in-state talent at home, which is critical to the program’s national relevance. Players like Malachi Coleman and Carter Nelson will be regulars in the Nebraska lineup for the next few years, playing critical roles in upgrading the program.

Rhule has made in-state recruitment a priority for his staff, and he is reaping the benefits.
Jones will need some time in college to find his sea legs before making the position his own, as linebacker is a difficult position to start as a rookie. With his track speed and striking abilities, he will gain experience on special teams at the college level. Because of the lack of depth at the position, he has the potential to make it his own if he performs well.
