BREAKING: Philadelphia Phillies Confirm Another Major Set Back As All-Star Player Suffers Mind-blowing Injury

The Philadelphia Phillies placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list on Thursday due to a kidney infection, sidelining him since August 28. Hays initially accompanied the team to Toronto but returned to Philadelphia for further medical evaluation.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson addressed the uncertainty of Hays’ recovery, stating, “I’m not a doctor, but they’ve told me it’s hard to predict how long this will take.” The team had hoped that a 48-hour course of antibiotics would clear the infection, but unfortunately, Hays has not shown signs of improvement. Thomson expressed the need for more clarity on Hays’ condition, as the initial treatment hasn’t been effective.

Hays, 29, joined the Phillies after a trade from the Baltimore Orioles on July 26, where the team exchanged pitcher Seranthony Dominguez and outfielder Cristian Pache for him. Since arriving in Philadelphia, Hays has posted a .269 batting average, hitting one home run and driving in five runs over 19 games. However, this marks his second trip to the injured list since joining the team, as he previously missed 13 games due to a hamstring injury.

A former American League All-Star last season, Hays has shown his value on the field, but his health issues have limited his contributions to the team. To fill his spot on the roster, the Phillies called up outfielder Cal Stevenson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, effective Monday.

The Phillies currently lead the NL East, holding a seven-game advantage over the Atlanta Braves as of Thursday.
