Breaking News: Rangers Land Blockbuster Trade To Replace…

Although the New York Rangers are in their Stanley Cup window, they have acquired choices and prospects in exchange for a former second-overall pick in a trade proposal.

Users can design their own deals using the PuckGM tool on the website PuckPedia. A user put out a trade that would see Kaapo Kakko be acquired by the Montreal Canadiens from the Rangers.

Canadiens acquire:

  • Kaapo Kakko

Rangers acquire:

  • Owen Beck
  • William Trudeau
  • 2025 third-round pick (Vancouver’s)
  • 2026 second-round pick

The proposed deal is favorable for the Rangers, as New York gains two prospects and two draft picks in exchange for Kaapo Kakko, a former second-overall pick.

Kakko was selected second overall by the Rangers in the 2019 NHL Draft but has struggled to meet expectations, even being a healthy scratch at times. Last season, he appeared in 61 games, tallying 13 goals and 6 assists for 19 points. This offseason, Kakko signed a one-year, $2.4 million extension with the Rangers.

In return, the Rangers would receive a second and third-round pick, which they could potentially use to acquire NHL players at the trade deadline. The top prospect in the deal is Beck, who was drafted 33rd overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. He projects as a bottom-six forward and could compete for NHL minutes this season, having already played in one NHL game.

Meanwhile, Trudeau was taken in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL draft and has spent the last two seasons in the American Hockey League.
