Coach Brian Kelly has added two players to the LSU football team’s injury list.
Princeton Malbrue, a junior defensive end, suffered a significant knee injury while covering a kickoff during the second quarter. Kelly said LSU submitted a complaint alleging that the Big 12 officiating crew failed to call a block in the back penalty on the play.
Kyle Parker, a freshman wide receiver, suffered a UCL damage to his elbow during his only grab of the game against USC, which went for six yards in the first quarter. Kelly indicated he’s iffy for Saturday’s game against Nicholls (6:30 p.m., SEC Network+).
Starting wide receiver Chris Hilton is still healing from a bone injury in his ankle that occurred during preseason camp. Kelly stated that LSU wants to ensure that he is completely healthy before he returns to the lineup.
Without Hilton and Parker, LSU gave a larger role to redshirt sophomore Aaron Anderson, who caught five catches for 64 yards and one touchdown. Garrett Nussmeier connected with Anderson for a 41-yard reception late in the fourth quarter, propelling LSU deep into USC territory.
Kelly stated on Tuesday that LSU hopes to find additional playing time for redshirt freshman receiver Shelton Sampson, especially if Hilton and Parker miss more time.
“He’s got to be able to play for us,” Kelly said, “and we need to get him on the field. So, this is an important week for him.”
