After his recent decommitment from the Hurricanes, Elijah Melendez is very interested in the Tigers.
The excitement surrounding Auburn football is growing, and the Tigers’ recruiting momentum is beginning to persuade high-level talents to contemplate a career on the Plains. Auburn’s recruiting rankings have risen dramatically since Big Cat Weekend, and the good news keeps coming in.
The Tigers opened their season on Saturday night against Alabama A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Despite the low-level opponent, the atmosphere at JHS was unrivaled, and the recruits in attendance were ecstatic throughout the game. Elijah Melendez was among many who visited school this weekend.
Melendez had originally committed to Miami, but he backed out just hours before Auburn’s game. On Monday, the player told On3 that he chose to decommit for family reasons and that he wanted to live in a college town where he can concentrate on getting to the NFL. After a weekend on the Plains, the Tigers have emerged as the frontrunners in Melendez’s recruitment.
“It was electric, I didn’t expect it to be that big of a game with the opponent that they were facing, but it was just very electric,” Melendez told On3, as well. “Yes, I would say that (Auburn leads). I feel like they’re making me a priority.”
Melendez received a scholarship offer from Auburn football in April, and he made an official visit to the Plains this summer. Melendez, of Osceola, Florida, is listed as the #17 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class and the #23 overall prospect from the Sunshine State. So yet, the linebacker has not set a decision date and is focused on finishing his senior season strong, but all signs point to Melendez joining the Tigers.
