The Phillies star smiled when he met with the media. He had just completed a bullpen session and will be activated from the restricted list before the Philadelphia Phillies’ game on Sunday evening.
The left-hander was placed on the restricted list unexpectedly less than an hour before Monday’s series start against the Houston Astros. He requested secrecy over the reason for his absence from the team.
“It’s a personal situation with my family,” Alvarado explained gently. “I can’t say anything about what is going on or what happened. That’s deeply personal. That’s all I got for you folks.”
Alvarado confirmed that he had to return to Venezuela.
“Yeah, I go to Venezuela,” Alvarado explained. “I made it. I am still alive. “I’m so glad to be here with my teammates.”
So, does Alvarado believe that whatever he left to attend has been resolved?
“Yes, I’m here,” Alvarado replied with a smile. “I’m here with my teammates.”
Okay, fair enough.

Alvarado did open up when he discussed the amount of support he has had from both his colleagues and supporters.
“A lot,” Alvarado said of the well wishes he’d received. “I’d like to thank the crew for supporting me and going through it with me. Like I already stated, I don’t have anything to say. Thank you to the crew and to the city.
“I’ve received numerous texts from various individuals… Fans are saying, ‘Hopefully everything is okay. I will pray with you and your family. And now I’m here. That’s all.”
