ICYMI: South Carolina Football Hire New Coach

The University of f’s board of trustees approved the contract for Shawn Elliott, who has been appointed as the new coach for the football team.

Elliott takes over from Justin Stepp, who, after coaching the wide receivers since 2021, transitioned to tight ends this offseason before leaving for a position as the wide receivers coach at the University of Illinois on February 8.

Elliott’s three-year contract, which runs through the end of the 2026 season, includes a base salary of $2.275 million. The deal also offers the possibility of earning up to $115,000 in bonuses based on performance objectives.

Previously, Elliott was the head coach at Georgia State, where he served since 2017 and led the Panthers to a 7-6 record in 2023, culminating in a win at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Before his tenure at Georgia State, Elliott was the offensive line coach at South Carolina from 2010 to 2016, also serving as interim head coach during the 2015 season. His coaching career began in 1997 at Appalachian State.

Elliott’s hiring is the latest in a series of coaching staff changes for South Carolina this offseason. The team has also brought in James Coley as the new wide receivers coach, Marquel Blackwell as the running backs coach, and Joe DeCamillis as the associate head coach and special teams coordinator.
