Auburn Tigers Running Back has been released from the hospital, but his recuperation is far from complete. Freeze provided an update on Battie’s progress.
Brian Battie, an Auburn Tigers running back, is recovering well following his involvement in a shooting that claimed the life of his brother Tyrone.
Battie was released from the hospital on Saturday, and Auburn coach Hugh Freeze provided an update on his recuperation during the SEC head coaches teleconference on Wednesday.
Prior to his appearance on the conference, Freeze paid a visit to Battie and discussed his previous interactions with him.
“We FaceTime at least once a week, typically, or at least me with his mom if he’s not up to it,” Freeze told me. “Today (yesterday, as this is written) was my first visit in person. We had two more flights scheduled, but both times the weather prevented us from taking off. Today was the first time, and I got to spend the entire morning with him, his mother, father, and sister before his treatment began, and it was great to see him.”
Freeze discussed Battie’s healing progress now that he has been released from the hospital.
“He’s in a battle,” Freeze added. “Obviously, the battle now is simply about healing and therapy, and his brain is starting to work correctly again. Walking remains difficult for him, but he has a positive attitude. He wants to go up to Auburn for a game, and it was great to spend time with him.”
Battie played in every game during his debut season with the Tigers in 2023, and he was the team’s leading kick returner. Battie rushed for 227 yards and a touchdown on 51 carries.
Before coming to Auburn, Battie played three seasons at South Florida, where he was awarded an All-American after the 2022 season.
