Nebraska is preparing a playbook for their quarterbacks this year.
Nebraska football may have a wealth of quarterback talent. While Dylan Raiola is scheduled to start for the Cornhuskers this season, backup quarterback Heinrich Haarberg is also expected to play. According to the Omaha World-Herald, Cornhuskers offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield sees Haarberg and Raiola spending a lot of time together on the field.
Satterfield told the media in advance of Nebraska’s first game that Haarberg is eager to earn some plays.
“I don’t want to be over there standing with a clipboard, let me go play,” Haarberg said Satterfield, according to the news outlet.
This season, Nebraska football will attempt to take the next step forward as Matt Rhule begins his second year as head coach. The Cornhuskers battled hard in the majority of their 2023 games, but concluded the season with a 5-7 record.
Nebraska football’s 2024 season outlook
Nebraska football is home to one of the nation’s most promising young quarterbacks, Dylan Raiola. A five-star recruit from Georgia, Raiola was initially expected to join an SEC program like Georgia. However, the Cornhuskers managed to secure his commitment, marking a significant win for the program.
Raiola aims to restore Nebraska to its former glory. Once a dominant force under Tom Osborne, the Cornhuskers have seen a decline over recent years. With head coach Matt Rhule at the helm, there’s hope for a revival. Rhule, known for his success at Baylor and Temple, has a proven track record of turning around struggling programs and now looks to do the same for Nebraska.
Additionally, Nebraska has a capable backup in Heinrich Haarberg, who contributed 967 passing yards in 2023. Despite his seven touchdowns and seven interceptions, and a completion rate of just 49 percent, Haarberg’s presence is expected to benefit the offense in 2024.
As Nebraska kicks off the season against UTEP on Saturday, fans will be closely watching how both Raiola and Haarberg are utilized on the field.
