Jasper Johnson, a 6-foot-4 guard and the No. 12 overall recruit in the 2025 class, will make his college decision on September 5th at Woodford County (Ky.) High School, sources told 247Sports on Monday.
The five-star guard will choose from five finalists: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, and North Carolina.
Over the last two months, this has been the most heated recruiting battle we’ve seen this cycle, with the Crimson Tide, Wildcats, and Tar Heels all competing for the five-star player.
Johnson was born and reared in Woodford County, Kentucky, and has been a primary priority for Mark Pope, Hubert Davis, and Nate Oats. He paid an official visit to all three schools.
In July, Johnson discussed his three contenders.

Alabama stated, “They were the first Power 5 institution to offer and recruit me. Nate Oats has been recruiting me for a while now. His persistence over the years in developing a relationship demonstrates that he believes in and trusts me. (Oates) and (Alabama assistant coach) Preston Murphy have consistently contacted my parents. “Our relationship is good.
Kentucky: “Mark Pope provides me the positive message of being a native kid. He is consistent with me. He explains what he wants me to do and how I can fit into his offense. He genuinely wants to coach me, and he wants to begin his 2025 recruiting class with me. I met the staff and got to witness them practice, which was great. He likes to take three-pointers on offense, and he wants me to come in and score the ball.”
North Carolina: “Hubert Davis and Sean May are pushing.” They want me to be the ACC’s top guard, scoring and leading their squad. They claim they will do everything it takes to help me achieve my goals, whether it’s one-and-done or winning a national championship.”
For much of this recruitment, it has been a struggle between North Carolina and Alabama, but Kentucky has now made a late run, making this recruitment even more exciting.
The important question of where Johnson will play college basketball will be answered in just a few days.
