The transfer portal remains active, even when it seems like everything has settled.
Wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, who transferred from Louisville to South Carolina during the offseason, has decided to leave the Gamecocks, as confirmed by coach Shane Beamer on Thursday. Reports indicate that Huggins-Bruce has returned to Louisville for his final year of eligibility.
“He is no longer a member of the team,” Beamer stated. “I spoke with him literally as I was walking into the radio show tonight.”
Beamer shared this update during his first “Carolina Calls” program of the season, a weekly event, confirming Huggins-Bruce’s departure afterward.
Originally from Dillon, Huggins-Bruce was among several transfer wide receivers who joined USC for this season. At Louisville, he appeared in 38 games, recording 80 receptions for 1,121 yards and 10 touchdowns.
However, during spring practice and preseason at USC, it became apparent that his playing opportunities this year were slim. Huggins-Bruce was working with the scout team this week and wasn’t projected to be part of the Gamecocks’ top-eight receiver rotation for the August 31 season opener.
After meeting with Beamer, Huggins-Bruce decided to return to Louisville for his final season, utilizing a loophole in the transfer rules that allows him to do so.
