Breaking News: FSU Lands Another Top Commitment for Special Player

Florida State has added another key recruit, securing transfer forward Pania Davis from New Mexico Junior College. As the team gears up for the 2024-25 season, the coaching staff is also focusing on future talent. Davis, a 6’6″ forward from Australia, is expected to make a significant impact on the Seminoles.

Head coach Brooke Wyckoff and her team prioritized recruiting a center to strengthen their presence in the competitive ACC. Davis, with her impressive size and skills, is a valuable addition who could elevate the team’s performance.

Davis has demonstrated her talent since her days in Australia and carried that success into her college career at NMJC. Despite the usual adjustment period from high school to college, Davis’ experience with high-level competition helped her transition smoothly.

On the court, Davis is versatile and effective both defensively and offensively. Defensively, she excels as a rim protector with excellent court awareness and communication, contributing significantly to New Mexico’s defensive strategy. Offensively, she relies on timing and precision rather than sheer athleticism. Davis is adept at finding high-percentage shots, using her footwork to gain an advantage, and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.

During her two seasons at New Mexico, Davis has been a standout player. In the 2023-24 season, she averaged 13.6 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks per game, earning accolades such as WJCAC Freshman of the Year and NJCAA All-Tournament Team. Her performances were crucial to New Mexico’s successful season.

JUCO players aim to catch the eye of Division I programs, and Davis succeeded in doing so, drawing interest from top schools like UConn and Virginia Tech. Florida State emerged as her top choice, thanks to the program’s storied success and Coach Wyckoff’s reputation.

Fans will have to wait until the 2025-26 season to see Davis in action for the Seminoles. However, her final season at New Mexico will allow her to further develop her skills, both offensively and defensively, setting her up to be a key contributor to Florida State’s success.
