And hey, there’s always seemed to be an extremely difficult recruiting battle for the Tide for elite recruits out of the Magnolia State, so getting a win there is a big deal.
Alabama officially signed Akylin Dear earlier this morning. He appeared to be on the edge of committing for several months, and when he finally scheduled a date a few weeks ago, Alabama fans hoped for the best.
Dear comes from near Meridian, Mississippi, therefore Tuscaloosa and Starkville were his two closest big institutions, with Ole Miss rounding out the bunch. Auburn’s #online fans continuously acted as if they were in the running, but by all accounts, this one appeared to be between UA and the two Mississippi schools.
And, hey, the Tide has always seemed to have an exceedingly difficult recruiting battle for elite recruits out of the Magnolia State, so obtaining a win there is a big deal.
Dear is ranked as the #1 running back in the country by 247Sports and #2 by On3. The composite rankings place him in the top 40 overall, with the 247Composite rating him as a 5-star recruit, while other sources list him as a high 4-star prospect.
With Dear’s commitment, Alabama has widened its lead over LSU for the #2 spot in the recruiting rankings and is closing in on Ohio State, despite having four fewer recruits than the Buckeyes. If Alabama completes the final 5 or so spots in their class with recruits of similar quality, they could well secure the top spot in the recruiting rankings once again.
Dear had an impressive high school season last year, accumulating over 2,000 rushing yards and looks to continue his strong performance in his senior year. He’s a larger back with a powerful running style and long strides, reminiscent of current Tide running back Richard Young.
