Breaking: Cowboys Confirm the Signing of Super Bowl Champion; 2X Pro Bowler

So far, the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 offseason has been everything from boring. A handful of recent free agency acquisitions have made news recently, but all eyes remain on the upcoming Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb contracts.

That being said, Dallas may potentially add even more depth and experience to their defense.

According to Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department, the Cowboys are the ideal destination for veteran defensive tackle Linval Joseph:

Although Mazi Smith had a commendable showing in the Cowboys’ preseason opener, his rookie season was underwhelming. Moreover, the defensive line lacks depth, with rookie seventh-round pick Justin Rogers likely to back up Smith.

Joseph, who previously played under defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer in Minnesota, would serve as a reliable veteran presence at nose tackle. At 35 years old, he could also strengthen Dallas’ run defense, which was a significant issue toward the end of last season.

While newly acquired Jordan Phillips (6’6″ and 341 pounds) possesses the size for this role, his experience has mainly been as a 3-technique in the B-gap throughout his career.

Joseph has moved around a lot in recent years due to ailments. Depending on his health, he might be an important player for the Cowboys inside. Jordan Phillips, who stands 6’6″ and weighs 340 pounds, possesses exceptional athleticism and can play in any lineup. If Joseph is signed, Dallas will have another anchor inside who can assist out in run situations and provide additional alternatives for their rotation. He can even play alongside Mazi Smith, giving Osa Odighizuwa a break if necessary.

Another incentive to pursue this move is that Joseph will not cost the Cowboys anything. The Cowboys’ defensive front has improved, but Zimmer believes they still need more “noses” (plural). Assuring the middle of the defense for at least 2024 could result in Joseph’s addition to the club.
