Breaking News: Marlins Confirm The Addition Of Another Top Experienced Star To Bolster Squad Depth

According to beat reporter Isaac Azout, the Miami Marlins announced Sunday night that infielder Connor Norby would be called up. At the trade deadline, Norby was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for starting pitcher Trevor Rogers. In exchange for Rogers, the Marlins also got outfielder Kyle Stowers. Stowers made his Major League Baseball debut in 2022 and has since been in and out of the league. Stowers has already appeared in 16 games with the Marlins. During those games, he had five hits and three walks.

Marlins Call Up Infielder Connor Norby

Connor Norby was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round of the 2021 draft. He spent the next four seasons in the minor leagues before making his major league debut earlier this year, only to be sent back down shortly after. In 2023, while playing for Triple-A Norfolk, he posted a .290/.359/.483 slash line, with 40 doubles, 21 home runs, and 10 stolen bases, finishing tied for fourth in all the minors in both hits and doubles.

This season, Norby was called up by the Orioles after Jorge Mateo entered concussion protocol. However, he only played nine games in the majors, where he batted .188 with two home runs. Upon returning to Norfolk, he began to excel again, slashing .297/.389/.519 with 16 home runs and 21 doubles in 80 games. By the time he was traded, Norby was ranked as Baltimore’s No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline and had led the Orioles’ farm system in combined home runs over the past two seasons.

Now with the Marlins organization, Norby has been playing for the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, where he has slashed .263/.300/.368 with 16 hits in 13 games. Norby is a young, powerful hitter who has the potential to become a key player for the Marlins, possibly revitalizing Miami’s lineup with his offensive capabilities.
