Breaking News: Texas Land New Head Coach

Texas coach Steven Trout announced that he has joined the team’s staff as the Assistant to the Head Coach. Pierce will assist in overseeing all aspects of the baseball program, both on and off the field.

“We’re thrilled to have David on our staff. His extensive knowledge and experience will be an invaluable asset to our program,” said Trout. “He’s a proven winner with a successful track record throughout his career. We’re excited about the impact he’ll have as we strive to win in San Marcos.”

David Pierce expressed his enthusiasm about joining Texas State, praising the university’s leadership and the baseball program’s accomplishments. “I’m excited to be a part of Texas State University and its athletic department. This is one of the most dynamic campuses in the nation, with strong leadership from President Kelly Damphousse and Athletic Director Don Coryell,” said Pierce. “I’m eager to work with the outstanding coaches and student-athletes. Coach Trout and his staff have done an exceptional job in maintaining and growing a top-tier college baseball program. I look forward to competing for championships with Texas State.”

Pierce joins Texas State after spending the last eight years as the head coach at Texas, where he compiled a 297-162 record. During his tenure, he led the Longhorns to six NCAA Tournament appearances, four Super Regionals, and three College World Series berths.

 

 

Throughout his 13-year head coaching career, Pierce has achieved a 494-271 record, including a 121-63 mark over three seasons at Sam Houston and a 76-46 record in two years at Tulane. He has twice been named ABCA Regional, Big 12, and Southland Conference Coach of the Year. In 2018, Baseball America honored him as National Coach of the Year after leading Texas to the College World Series for the first time in four years.
