Breaking News: Dodgers Star To Undergo Surgery After Terrible Injury

A right-handed pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will require Tommy John surgery after injuring his elbow on Saturday during his fourth major league start.

The Dodgers announced on Tuesday that Ryan will have ligament replacement surgery next week. Ryan had already been told that he would miss the rest of the season. This surgery will most likely keep him out until at least 2025.

“We were holding out hope,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said prior to Tuesday’s game in Milwaukee. “But, sadly, he has to undergo surgery.

“But I think, even when you talk to River, he’s been through trials and knows how to handle it mentally,” Roberts argued. “He’ll miss being with the guys.

But this is an operation that they have an excellent grasp on, so we anticipate a full recovery. It’s just very disappointing.”

Ryan, 25, went 1-0 with a 1.33 ERA in four starts for Los Angeles this season. He went 0-0 with a 2.22 ERA in eight minor league starts.
Ryan revealed after the Dodgers’ 4-1 victory against Pittsburgh on Saturday that he began to feel tightness in his forearm in the third inning. He was removed from the game in the fifth inning.

Walker Buehler, a right-hander who has been on the disabled list since June 19 due to right hip irritation, is expected to return and start Wednesday against the Brewers.

“We’ve got Walker tomorrow and Jack (Flaherty) is going on the day game (Thursday),” Roberts said. Buehler, who has a 5.84 ERA in eight starts this season for the Dodgers, had three rehab starts at Triple-A Oklahoma City while on the injured list. Buehler’s most recent minor league start went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out five and walking three.

Buehler missed the whole 2023 MLB season while recovering from his second Tommy John surgery. He last pitched for the Dodgers on June 10, 2022, against the Giants. He was activated in early May of this year.
