The Bruins had a good free agency class when they signed Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov, but one major question mark remains: the situation of goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman.
Neither Boston nor Swayman chose to go to arbitration this summer, and both sides have stated multiple times that they are sure a long-term agreement can be reached. With training camp approaching quickly, nothing has been announced as of about midway through August.
Charlie Jacobs, the Bruins’ CEO, delivered a modest update on the club and the goaltender.
“I try not to comment on player-contract negotiations. “We are still negotiating with Sway,” Jacobs remarked during his visit on WEEI’s “Gresh & Fauria” during the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. “I hope he’ll be ready to play at training camp. We need to figure some things out. I am confident we will get there.”
Jacobs noted that the Bruins’ “unfinished business” this offseason was to secure Swayman to a long-term contract.
In June, the Bruins dealt Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators and acquired Joonas Korpisalo. The goaltender had a poor season in Ottawa and was statistically one of the league’s worst goalies. Boston also has Brandon Bussi in Providence, who is on the verge of making his NHL debut.
Swayman is coming off a successful 2023-24 season, during which he appeared in all but one postseason game for Boston through two rounds. He concluded the regular season with a 25-10-8 record, 2.53 goals against average, and.916 save percentage.
It’s a quiet period in the offseason, but the Bruins have always prioritized keeping Swayman around for the long haul. Now all that remains is to wait and see when it happens.
