Breaking: Texas Tech Confirm Unexpected Setback As Star Suffers Mind-blowing Injury

The one thing that every team in America hopes to avoid during fall camp is a catastrophic injury. Unfortunately, one of Texas Tech’s excellent young defensive players was unable to accomplish that during the first week of fall camp this year.

“Dylan Spencer, we lost him for the year,” Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire stated after Saturday’s first scrimmage of fall camp. “Knee…Practice No. 1 or maybe No. 2. He’ll be out for the year because he doesn’t wear pads or play contact.

“Bad step, somewhat overextended. “It’s kind of scary when it’s non-contact, guys.”

This is clearly terrible news for the Red Raiders. After all, Spencer (a true sophomore) is one of the guys on the squad who was a highly regarded prospect when he signed with Tech.

According to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, the Houston native is a 4-star signee for the class of 2023. He was the nation’s No. 43 defensive lineman and Texas’ No. 58 player.

Spencer had an amazing offer list as a recruit. In addition to Tech, he was recruited by Arizona State, Baylor, Houston, LSU, SMU, Texas A&M, and USC. Furthermore, during his recruiting process, he had committed to the Texas Longhorns.

Spencer has been held to high expectations since his arrival. Last season, the outside linebacker appeared in eight games. He was the No. 2 edge rusher behind senior Myles Cole, recording four tackles and 84 snaps.

This season, the 6-foot-5, 245-pounder was anticipated to compete for greater playing time. He was competing with a number of teammates for pass rush snaps as Tech seeks replacements for that key position. However, it will be at least a year before we see him take on the quarterback again.
