Birdsong, who turns 23 later this month, is set to make his eighth career start. He debuted on June 26 and was drafted in the sixth round from Eastern Illinois in 2022, showing promising progress through the minor leagues.
Montero, in his last outing on August 6, struck out a career-high eight batters and led the Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners. He allowed only four hits and one walk over six strong innings, with the sole run against him coming from a solo homer by Luke Raley in the fifth inning.
