According to On3, ESPN has identified the top 25 players who “will determine the College Football Playoff race during the 2024 season.” ESPN did not use the term ‘game changers,’ but a player who determines their team’s prospects of making the playoffs cannot be anything other than a game changer.
Alabama Football had two players on the list, both in the top ten: Jalen Milroe (4th) and Kobe Prentice (10th). Many Crimson Tide fans are pleasantly shocked that Prentice is featured. As a rookie in 2022, Prentice caught 31 receptions for 337 yards and two touchdowns.
Prentice’s performance in the 2023 season dipped to 18 catches, although he still gained almost as many yards (314) and two touchdowns.
Alabama fans realize Prentice has the potential to generate higher statistics in 2024. Prentice is set to start with Germie Bernard and Kendrick Law. Alabama’s wide receivers are stocked with speedsters. Prentice may not be the fastest, but he has enough speed to shine as a consistent starter in ’24.
No one is surprised that Jalen Milroe is in ESPN’s top ten. ESPN’s understated estimate of Milroe’s significance is that “Milroe could develop further under the offensive-savvy DeBoer.” College football players typically grow season after season. Even a slightly improved Milroe will solidify the Crimson Tide’s status as a national championship contender.
