Breaking News: Yankees Confirm the Departure of Another Top Experienced Star

The Yankees have released another top player, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Davis went unclaimed after being DFA’d by the Yankees on Sunday after they acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. He will enter free agency, hoping to sign with another organization. Davis has a.218/.298/.338 slash line in 157 plate appearances this season. In seven games with New York, he batted.105 with one RBI and nine strikeouts.

In addition, utility player Jahmai Jones has been assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Davis began the season by winning an arbitration case against the San Francisco Giants. He was set to earn $6.9 million this year, but the Giants dropped him after signing Matt Chapman to take over at third base. Davis joined the Oakland Athletics but missed time with a right adductor strain. He hit only.236/.304/.366 before being traded to the Yankees, who assigned him to the bench. The Yankees will have to pay Davis’ remaining salary ($775,000).

Jones is out of options and must be on the active roster of any claiming team. Jones, on the other hand, will be under club control for another five seasons. Despite failing to achieve 75 plate appearances per season, he hit.198/.257/.278 in his major league career. When the Yankees grabbed him in the offseason, he had only 47 plate appearances in four months. He was eventually designated for assignment after Giancarlo Stanton returned from injury. From 2021 to 2023, his minor-league performance was remarkable. During that time, he hit.254/.378/.441 and stole 25 bases in 34 attempts.

He even walked in 15.2 percent of his plate appearances, but struck out 21.8 percent. With his Triple-A firepower and adaptability, another organization may take a risk on him.
