Johnson’s contribution to the team cannot be emphasized. The senior back has over 2,500 career running yards and has led the Gators in rushing for the past two seasons, reaching 800 yards in each. Treyaun Webb, a sophomore, is expected to take over as starter in Johnson’s absence. Webb showed promise last season, gaining 163 running yards on 26 tries and two touchdowns while also exhibiting versatility with four receptions totaling 18 yards.
During spring training, Webb expressed his preparedness for additional responsibilities, saying, “It’s a big opportunity, and I plan on taking full advantage of it.” This mentality bodes well for the Gators as they face an unexpected test.

Freshmen Kahnen Daniels and Jadan Baugh are also on the running back depth chart, and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke has praised them for their potential and unique skill sets. Furthermore, veteran Cam Carroll, who is recovering from an ACL tear, may provide seasoned depth if fully healthy.
While Johnson’s absence is concerning, it should be noted that his injury is not deemed season-ending. There is hope that he will return for the season opening or shortly thereafter.
