According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Texas Rangers are nearing completion on a trade with the Detroit Tigers to acquire left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin. The return package for Chafin has yet to be released.
Andrew Chafin, who signed a one-year, $4.25 million contract with the Tigers on December 12, 2023, also had a club option in 2025.
Chafin has been a consistent presence in the Tigers’ bullpen this season, compiling a 3.16 ERA in 41 games, 50 strikeouts, and a 1.378 WHIP in 37 innings. His career stats include 3.39 ERA, 20 saves, and 535 strikeouts in 489 innings.
Chafin is regarded as a crucial addition by the Rangers, who are aiming to strengthen their bullpen in preparation for a playoff run. His expertise and strong performance this season make him an important part of their relief pitching rotation.
