Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury during training camp, the NFL organization confirmed.
Williams, a prep standout at Lee-Montgomery (now Percy Julian), was preparing for his third season with Dallas when he injured his left knee during practice on Sunday, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament.
The Cowboys announced that Williams will require surgery and will miss the 2024 NFL season.
Williams was injured during an unpadded practice while participating in a special teams drill.
Williams, a second-round draft pick from Ole Miss, appeared in 32 regular-season games and three playoff games during his first two NFL seasons.
the regular season, he recorded 48 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. In 32 games, he played 576 defensive snaps and 544 special teams plays.
With defensive ends Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler leaving the Cowboys for free this offseason, Williams was expected to play a larger role in 2024.
