The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly aggressively seeking additional depth as the MLB trade deadline approaches on July 30.
According to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya and Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are “in discussions” with the St. Louis Cardinals about acquiring utility player Tommy Edman.
However, there is a risk involved since Edman has yet to play this season due to wrist and ankle injuries. He had wrist surgery in the offseason and then suffered an ankle injury while recovering.
Despite these health concerns, the Dodgers have scouted Edman during his recovery and considered his current condition in their trade negotiations.
When healthy, Edman’s versatility makes him a strong fit for the Dodgers. A one-time Gold Glove winner, he can competently handle both middle infield positions and center field.
At 29, Edman has shown consistency at the plate, hitting .265 in nearly 600 career games with the Cardinals and hitting double-digit home runs in each of his four full seasons.
This potential move comes shortly after the Dodgers added another former Gold Glove winner to their roster.
